🌉 A Small Bridge with a Great Story
Silent, fragile, suspended above a narrow canal — the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) is one of the most emotional landmarks in Venice.

A narrow corridor, divided in two by a wall, once separated:

It is here that, according to legend, prisoners sighed at their last glimpse of Venice before disappearing into darkness.

On the outside, the Bridge of Sighs is a masterpiece of white Istrian limestone and soft Baroque curves.
Decorated with sculpted masks symbolising justice and human frailty, the bridge appears suspended, almost weightless, above the Rio di Palazzo.
Seen from the water, it feels like a tiny jewel tucked between two great giants: the Doge’s Palace and the prisons.

To admire the bridge at its best, stand on the Ponte della Paglia 📸, just steps from the lagoon.
At sunrise, the canal glows silver; at sunset, it warms to gold, and the bridge looks carved from light.
